THE DONEGAL GAELTACHT has just been given a big jobs boost with the announcement of 125 new jobs in Gaoth Dobhair (Gweedore).
Manchester-based telemarketing and customer services companySLM Connect is to establish a new base at the Gaoth Dobhair Business Park, with the first jobs set to come on stream in the coming months.
The plans are supported by the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht through Údarás na Gaeltachta who say that 25 people will be hired initially.
Junior Minister and Donegal TD Joe McHugh says that the company plans to “increase its employment numbers substantially” in the months after the initial 25 positions are filled.
The company will be seeking employees with both customer care experience and others with management and supervisory experience.
The news is particularly positive for a county that has one of the highest unemployment rates in the country and a town that has has had some significant job losses in recent times.
The move will see the creation of SLM Éire Teo which will begin operating from its Gaoth Dobhair base in the summer.
McHugh says that the jobs represent a “huge boost” for the area given the economic problems the county has faced.
“The move will be a major boost for the Gaeltacht area of Gaoth Dobhair and surrounding areas which have suffered unemployment and emigration in recent years and today’s news is a positive story for our county,” he said.
